The AKG W407 is a replacement foam windscreen for the C407 and C417 miniature microphones, fitted to reduce wind noise and breath blasts on close-worn capsules. It is intended for anyone running body-worn or headworn microphones in speech-critical work, where consistent intelligibility matters more than raw level.

Open-cell acoustic foam attenuates air movement across the capsule while keeping high-frequency loss to a minimum, so the microphone's response and intelligibility are preserved. The windscreen slips over the capsule housing by friction fit, so no adaptors or tools are needed, and it also shields the element from perspiration, moisture and cosmetics — a practical consideration when microphones are shared between presenters or cast members.
