DESCRIPTION
The AKG PCC170-SW is a professional boundary layer condenser microphone with a supercardioid polar pattern, intended for surface mounting on boardroom tables, conference desks and lecterns where speech intelligibility has to be maintained at distance from the talker. The switched variant adds a local on/off control, giving the presenter or chairperson direct muting without reaching the mixer.
Boundary layer operation places the capsule close to the mounting surface, so the table or lectern top becomes an acoustic extension of the diaphragm and the phase cancellation caused by nearby reflections is avoided. The supercardioid pattern narrows pickup towards the talker and rejects off-axis sound, raising gain before feedback in rooms with loudspeakers close to the microphone position. Output is balanced and low impedance on XLR for long cable runs back to a mixer, DSP or conferencing system, and the low-profile black housing is built for permanent installation as well as repeated portable use.
- Supercardioid polar pattern for reduced background noise and improved feedback margin
- Boundary layer design that uses the mounting surface to avoid reflection-induced comb filtering
- Integral on/off switch for talker-operated muting at the table or lectern
- Balanced XLR output operating from standard phantom power
- Low-profile black housing suited to fixed installation and visually discreet table placement
Well suited to corporate AV, houses of worship, education and distance learning, and permanent conferencing installation work.
