The AKG P5S is a handheld dynamic microphone built for lead and backing vocals, spoken word and general stage duties, with an on/off switch for performers and presenters who need to mute at the microphone rather than at the console. Its supercardioid pattern favours the sound source directly in front of the capsule while rejecting sound arriving from the sides and rear, which lifts gain before feedback on loud stages and in reverberant rooms.

The dynamic capsule requires no phantom power and connects to any standard microphone preamplifier on a mixing console, stage box or portable recorder via a balanced XLR cable. Internal shock mounting reduces handling noise transmitted through the body, and the metal housing and steel mesh grille are specified for the knocks of regular gigging, hire stock and multi-user installed systems where microphones are shared between operators.
