DESCRIPTION
The AKG P170 is a small-diaphragm true condenser microphone built for accurate capture of transient-rich sources: drum overheads, percussion, acoustic guitar and other stringed instruments. Its consistent cardioid pattern and light 1/2-inch diaphragm suit engineers who need detail and speed of response without the weight or cost of a large-diaphragm design.
The capsule delivers a 20 Hz to 20 kHz response with 15 mV/Pa sensitivity, and a switchable -20 dB pad raises maximum SPL handling from 135 dB to 155 dB for close work on snare, hi-hat or brass. Output is via 3-pin XLR (pin 2 hot) with a 200 ohm source impedance, feeding standard preamplifiers from 48 V phantom power at under 3 mA. The all-metal body measures 22 mm in diameter and 160 mm long, weighs 130 g, and is slim enough to position in tight stage and kit placements. Matched pairs are straightforward to configure for stereo arrays.
- 1/2-inch true condenser capsule with cardioid polar pattern
- Switchable -20 dB pre-attenuation pad for 155 dB SPL capability
- 19 dB (A) equivalent noise level and 75 dB (A) signal-to-noise ratio
- Requires 48 V ± 4 V phantom power to IEC 61938
- Operating temperature range of -10 °C to +60 °C
A dependable instrument microphone for studio tracking, live events, theatre, broadcast and education facilities.
