DESCRIPTION
The AKG K872 is a closed-back, over-ear master reference headphone built for critical listening where isolation matters. It is aimed at mixing and mastering engineers, broadcast operators and producers who need to hear detail and stereo placement accurately while monitoring near a live source or in a shared control room.
Each earcup houses a 53 mm transducer driven by a 1.5 Tesla magnet system, with a frequency range of 5 Hz to 54 kHz and a rated impedance of 36 ohms. Sensitivity of 112 dB SPL/V at 1 kHz means the K872 reaches useful monitoring levels from headphone outputs on interfaces, consoles and portable recorders, while the 300 mW maximum input power gives headroom on dedicated amplifiers. The detachable 3 m cable terminates in a 3.5 mm plug with a gold-plated 6.3 mm screw-on adapter, and the open-mesh headband with 3D-shaped slow-retention foam earpads keeps the 390 g weight comfortable across long sessions.
