The AKG D5 is a professional handheld dynamic vocal microphone with a supercardioid polar pattern, built for lead and backing vocals on loud stages. Its tight pickup pattern keeps wedge and sidefill spill out of the channel, giving engineers more gain before feedback and vocalists a clear, present sound without constant EQ intervention.

The moving-coil capsule uses AKG's patented laminated Varimotion diaphragm, which is thinner at the edge than at the centre to shape the frequency response mechanically rather than relying on resonance chambers. This yields a detailed upper midrange that cuts through dense band mixes while resisting harshness. An integrated humbucking coil suppresses hum from lighting rigs, dimmers and backline transformers. The all-metal body, spring-steel wire mesh grille and internal shock mount stand up to nightly handling in touring and hire inventories, and the microphone connects via a standard 3-pin XLR to any mic preamp with no phantom power required.
