The AKG CHM99 is a hanging condenser microphone module with a cardioid polar pattern, designed for suspended overhead pickup of choirs, ensembles, drama and spoken word. The white finish is intended to disappear against light-coloured ceilings and acoustic treatment, making it a practical choice for integrators who need reliable capture without visible microphone stands in the audience sightline.

The capsule is supplied on a spring steel hanging clamp, which grips the suspension cable and allows the vertical drop and aiming angle to be set during commissioning and then left alone. Termination is via a slim cable to a standard balanced XLR connection, so the microphone feeds any phantom-powered console, DSP or matrix input without additional interfacing. Construction follows the same conventions as the rest of the AKG 99ers Series of installation microphones, with a discreet body profile and a supplied windscreen for control of air movement from HVAC diffusers.
