The AKG C414 XLII-ST is a factory-matched stereo pair of multi-pattern large-diaphragm condenser microphones, supplied with everything needed for coincident and spaced stereo work. It is aimed at engineers recording acoustic instruments, ensembles, drum overheads, choirs and rooms where two capsules must behave identically across the frequency range.

Each C414 XLII carries the slightly presence-lifted capsule characteristic associated with the classic C12, making it well suited to soloists and distant miking where detail must survive in a dense mix. Nine selectable polar patterns cover omnidirectional through cardioid to figure-of-eight and the intermediate hyper- and wide-cardioid options, with switchable bass filters and pads for close work on loud sources. A peak hold LED indicates even brief overloads, and all switching is electronically locked to avoid accidental changes during a session. Pattern-matched capsule pairs are individually measured before shipping.
