The AKG C104 is a large-diaphragm cardioid condenser microphone built for detailed studio and broadcast capture, from close-miked electric guitar cabinets to spoken voice. Its combination of low self-noise and high headroom makes it a practical first condenser for project studios and a dependable utility mic for engineers who need clean, uncoloured results without careful gain management.

The capsule uses a plastic foil diaphragm nickel-sputtered on one side, a construction that prevents shorting to the back electrode even when the microphone is driven at extremely high sound pressure levels. The cardioid pattern gives predictable off-axis rejection for tracking in untreated rooms and for lectern or voice-over work where room reflections and monitor bleed need controlling. Bodies are manufactured from 100% recycled PIR metal, with accessories and fully recyclable packaging engineered to the same sustainability brief.
