The Audio-Technica AT4050ST is a stereo condenser microphone built around dual matched large-diaphragm capsules configured in a mid-side (M-S) arrangement. Designed for demanding studio recording, broadcast, and field production applications, it delivers exceptional stereo imaging from a single-point source, eliminating phase issues commonly associated with spaced-pair techniques.
The mid element offers switchable cardioid and omnidirectional polar patterns, while the side element operates in a fixed figure-8 pattern. An internal M-S matrix allows the user to switch between decoded stereo output and raw M-S signals, providing maximum flexibility in post-production for precise stereo width control.
