The dbx 266XS is a two-channel compressor, expander and gate designed to bring predictable dynamic control to live rigs, studios and installed systems. It smooths uneven levels, adds sustain to guitars, fattens drums and tightens full mixes, making it a practical tool for engineers, installers and musicians who need consistent results without lengthy setup.

Each channel offers full manual control alongside the classic dbx Auto mode, which sets attack and release times relative to programme material for transparent gain reduction. Revised gate timing algorithms deliver smooth release characteristics, while the program-adaptive expander/gate section tracks the signal rather than working to fixed times. Balanced inputs and outputs on both XLR and 1/4-inch TRS suit patching into consoles, racks and outboard chains, and a side chain insert per channel enables frequency-conscious compression such as de-essing or ducking. The rack-mount steel chassis is built for permanent installation or repeated transport.
